Peer Review Training

Instructor/Class Survey

Peer Review Training Process
Step 1: Find someone who you have never partnered with for peer review activities (of the outlines)
Step 2: Write down the purpose of peer review here.
Step 3: Watch this peer review video. Then, share YOUR experience and come up with some good strategies for the future (how you can continue to have good experience or better experience)
  • How did you like your peer review experience last week? Anything you wish you or your partner had done differently?
  • What should be some "rules" you should follow when giving feedback to someone?
Step 4: Peer Review Language Practice
  • Praise – what is good about the writing? (overall)
  • Question – as a reader, what didn’t you understand?
  • Polish – what specific suggestions for improvements can you give?
Useful expressions for suggestions:
  • Could you...(e.g., elaborate on this point)?
  • It seems like...
  • It would/might be better to…
  • Have you thought about…?
  • How about...?
  • I was a little confused about.../I'm not sure if this is… Did you mean…?
Note: Use "I-message" rather than "You-message" when providing criticism (e.g., "I have trouble finding..." vs. "You are missing...")
