Day 24: Review of patterns of organization

Goals: You will be able to...
Task 1: Review of 4 patterns of paragraph organization 1
When you choose a topic for an essay or a research paper, you need to decide which pattern of organization fits your topic best before writing an outline. Certain topics fit more naturally with certain patterns of organization. In groups of 3-4, you should spread out all of the sheets of the NINE PATTERNS WORKSHEET and write the topics under the patterns that fit them. You should be able to explain why they think each pattern is most fitting for the topic.
Note: Each topic may fall under more than one pattern.

Task 2: How to use different organization patterns together
The patterns of organization are not always isolated from one another. Sometimes, a writer can use more than one pattern of organization. Using the COMBINING PATTERNS WORKSHEET, combine each pair of thesis statements into one new thesis statement to demonstrate these combo patterns.

Task 3: Introduction to the 2nd essay

Homework: Write a DETAILED outline for your 2nd essay, naming it as "Essay2_outline_your name" and upload it on your Dropbox folder Unit 2. The outline is due by Oct 26 Friday, BEFORE CLASS TIME. We'll have a peer review of the outline on Friday. So, come prepared (if not, you'll be sent home and will lose 10% of the grade, which is the peer review points). In order to get as much helpful feedback as possible, your outline should have a thorough/detailed plan for writing.
